Description:
Island Institute is hiring a Content Marketing Specialist who will work as a member of the Marketing Team to build the Island Institute brand via digital content creation and publishing, as well as supporting print content creation. The Specialist strategizes, plans, creates and posts content for social media, emails, and other media in support of marketing campaigns and customer journeys. The Specialist oversees content calendar inputs, deadlines, and cross-team sharing, and seeks content assets and permissions for publication as needed.
The Specialist is a lead writer for the marketing team, helping to elevate the organization’s voice with an emphasis on storytelling. The Specialist is action and detail-oriented and demonstrates project management skills as well as the ability to work with a diverse team of people. The Specialist must carefully allocate time and organizational resources while working across multiple projects.
Essential Functions:
- Develops a content and story pipeline in coordination with the marketing team and established strategies and priorities.
- Plans, creates, edits and refreshes content to meet organizational and marketing objectives.
- Works in partnership with the other members of the team to deliver high quality, engaging digital experiences.
- Plans ahead and secures stories for content pipeline and copywriting for Island Institute mass emails including monthly e-news, programmatic emails, philanthropy appeals and targeted journeys.
- Manages content calendar for Island Institute social media channels, including content creation, scheduling, advertising, and its relation to other digital channels.
- Leverages social media to amplify donor prospecting acquisition and stewardship efforts.
- Contributes and responds to marketing requests from other departments as assigned, including creating new content calendar entries that align with the philanthropy plan and events.
- Assists in evaluating public opinion through social media, online surveys, and comments.
- Reports on social media metrics as requested.
- Edits and/or proofreads as requested by the Marketing team.
- Seeks and participates in professional development opportunities to build cross-sector and essential skills.
- Promotes the Institute’s work by seeking out new social media audiences, online collaborators, and other external audiences as requested.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree, preferably in media/communications, or a related field
- At least 2 years’ experience working in a related field.
- Demonstrated experience or a portfolio showing use of social media and planned marketing campaigns to increase visibility.
- Exceptional written communication skills; able to effectively convey the organization’s mission, priorities, and programs to diverse audiences in a variety of formats.
- Superior skills in proofreading and editing.
- Strong listening skills and the ability to creatively translate and express organizational priorities to external audiences.
- Experience with relevant technology, including social media platforms, email marketing software (Pardot preferred), and Office 365 applications.
- Experience in graphic design and creating content for different platforms/audiences.
