Trustpoint is seeking a highly skilled Conflicts Attorney to join our client's Conflicts Team. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in a conflicts department within a mid-to-large-sized law firm, a strong understanding of legal ethics, and a commitment to ensuring compliance with professional responsibility rules. This position is available in our Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Detroit, Denver, Indianapolis, or Minneapolis offices, with the flexibility to work remotely as needed.

 

The Conflicts Attorney will manage the complete conflicts process, including conducting conflicts searches, reviewing search results, and collaborating with attorneys to resolve conflicts. This role is essential in ensuring that the firm adheres to its ethical obligations while supporting business growth and lateral hires.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze conflicts search results for new business opportunities and lateral hires, identifying any potential conflicts of interest and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to resolve them.
  • Partner with the Conflicts Counsel, General Counsel, firm attorneys, and the conflicts team to efficiently and effectively resolve conflicts in a timely manner.
  • Assist with lateral attorney transitions by supporting the onboarding process, which includes managing client matters, drafting engagement letters, and preparing conflict waivers.
  • Draft and distribute ethical screen memoranda to establish new ethical walls, as well as manage and update existing ones using the firm’s conflict management software.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to streamline workflows and processes, aiming to reduce risks and increase operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to the development and training of department staff, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Assist with large-scale data review, reconciliation, and cleanup of the firm’s client/matter information and conflicts database to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to legal assistants, attorneys, and other team members, ensuring smooth and professional interactions.
  • Travel to other office locations as required to support conflicts-related activities and coordination.
  • Be available to work remotely and outside of regular business hours when necessary to meet deadlines or address urgent matters.

 

Key Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) and active license to practice law in the United States required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Conflicts Attorney or in a comparable role in a mid-to-large-sized law firm.
  • Strong understanding of legal relationships, loss prevention, and legal risk management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Rules of Professional Conduct, particularly as it relates to conflicts of interest.
  • Experience with database review and conflict search tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex issues and solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, especially in addressing complex conflict scenarios.
  • Highly detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills and the ability to track, follow-up, and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Proficient in using various reference materials and conducting internet searches to resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in collaboration with others.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive information.

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Intapp experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to scale communications and simplify complex issues for a wide range of stakeholders.
