Community Development Educator

 

Description:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Division of Extension is seeking a Community Development Educator to support local communities in Clark and Trempealeau counties. This role focuses on economic development, leadership, entrepreneurship, and community engagement to promote thriving communities.

The position is housed in the Community Development Institute, which works with leaders, organizations, and communities to enhance quality of life through education, research, and technical assistance. Initial areas of focus may include housing, business district development, placemaking, and entrepreneurship.

The selected candidate will be responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating research-based educational programs to support local governments, nonprofit organizations, and businesses in making informed decisions that strengthen their communities.


Key Responsibilities:

πŸ“Œ Community Outreach & Engagement

  • Identify, promote, and maintain partnerships with local organizations, government agencies, and community leaders.
  • Engage with culturally diverse communities to ensure inclusive programming.
  • Communicate program activities, impact, and achievements to key stakeholders.

πŸ“Œ Program Development & Implementation

  • Design, deliver, and evaluate educational outreach programs in economic and community development.
  • Research and develop curriculum and educational materials tailored to local needs.
  • Organize workshops, training sessions, and community events to address development challenges.

πŸ“Œ Leadership & Policy Support

  • Support downtown revitalization, small business development, and local entrepreneurship efforts.
  • Provide guidance on housing initiatives and community economic planning.
  • Offer technical assistance to local governments and nonprofit organizations.

Qualifications:

βœ” Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • Experience in community outreach, education, or program development.
  • Strong communication skills (written & verbal).
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse populations.
  • Willingness to travel locally for community engagement.

βœ” Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in a related field.
  • Three or more years of experience in community or economic development.
  • Experience in organizing events, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Knowledge of local government operations and nonprofit management.

Work Type:

🏒 Onsite position with occasional nights and weekends to meet community needs.
