Description:
The Kentucky Commercialization Ventures (KCV) Commercialization Manager/Associate Commercialization Manager manages the commercialization strategy and execution, in coordination with any applicable university-designated stakeholders, related to all inventions disclosed to KCV. The KCV Commercialization Manager will, in coordination with applicable university stakeholders, manage the development of commercialization strategies for patented inventions, including technology marketing, corporate partnering and collaborative research project development, consulting with inventors on technology de-risking strategies, licensing and new venture formation. The KCV Commercialization Manager will oversee university inventor participation in white labeled KCV commercialization programs related to entrepreneur education, company formation, conference pitching, and others. The KCV Commercialization Manager will support the KCV Executive Director and KCV team in conducting education for faculty and students at participating institutions related to research commercialization, licensing of participating institution intellectual property, and new venture creation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the KCV Executive Director, initiate and lead in license, option and collaborative agreement negotiations on behalf of KCV and KY institutions.
- Oversee commercialization partner compliance to leverage optimal outcomes on behalf of stakeholders.
- Track and report on KCV�metrics,�prepare financial reports and assist with all programmatic operations.
- Assist and advise in new venture formation, including building a network of investors, grant funders and entrepreneurs and resources available to assist in successful university start-up formation and launch.
- In coordination with the KCV Executive Director and relevant KCV and university personnel, develop commercialization strategies, technology marketing materials and market selected innovations to industry, investors and entrepreneurs in order to develop commercialization opportunities.
- In collaboration with the KCV team, provide commercialization and start-up education and advice to KY institutions, including development and launch of outreach events and online resources.
- Travel to participating KY university campuses regularly to meet with inventors, administrators and potential and current commercialization partners�to drive research and commercialization investment with the institutions and in KY.
- Assist KCV Executive Director and/or other KCV staff in other ways deemed central to the overall development and ongoing success of KCV operations.� Track and report on KCV�metrics, prepare financial reports and assist with all programmatic operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in science, engineering, business, law or a related field and three years of related experience.
- Successful leadership experience in marketing, negotiating and licensing biotech and high-tech innovations out of academia.�
- Experience in new venture formation, including working with entrepreneurs and investors in developing and advising start-ups.��
- Strong network of industry, investor and entrepreneur contacts and excellent communication skills.
