Collections Information Specialist

Reporting to the Associate Director of Collections Information, the Collections Information Specialist (Fixed-Term) will act as the technical steward for data integrity in the museum’s collections information and digital asset management ecosystem, comprising TMS Collections, Conservation Studio, Media Studio, and eMuseum. Working collaboratively and cross-departmentally as part of a tight-knit team of digital collection and asset managers, this role will manage projects in support of the ongoing implementation of the databases, and the expansion of access to FAMSF’s collections information. This is a great opportunity for an early professional, or someone with experience in data looking to move into the art and culture space.

This position has a fixed-term length of 3 years.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Track and complete data cleanup and normalization projects that are a priority for the Collections Information team, the institution, and other stakeholders.
  • Perform scripted SQL updates as needed for efficient cleaning.
  • Performs batch updates and object record import/updates.
  • Ensures adherence to data entry standards and cataloging guidelines.
  • Works closely with the Database Administrator to assist with ad hoc data migration projects.
  • Attends working group meetings, facilitating standards discussions as needed.
  • Contribute to and draft procedural documentation.
  • Assist with end-user support as needed.
  • Assist with the implementation of interoperability and international schema standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science or related degree, ideally with training or focus on cultural heritage information.

Work Experience: Minimum 3 years experience with museum cataloging, database management, digital collections management, and/or arts management. Experience with project management, completing long-term data cleaning projects, and implementing museum cataloging standards and controlled vocabularies. Previous experience with TMS (The Museum System) is preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency with relational databases and SQL.
  • Knowledge of controlled vocabularies, art cataloging standards, interoperability standards, and linked open data schema related to the Semantic Web.
