Description:
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Minimum of two years of training or experience in conservation, bookbinding, or related field (e.g. museum studies, archival practice, preventative conservation, exhibition preparation).
- Experience conducting treatment assessments and performing detail-oriented work on paper-based materials; strong hand skills required (applicants invited to interview may be asked to bring relevant examples of handwork).
- Ability to operate specialized equipment, such as shears, book presses, and fume hoods.
- Knowledge of preservation standards for library materials (environment, housing, care and handling, etc.)
- Experience training and supervising students in basic book repair, or other tasks.
- Able to follow directions, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, identify challenges, and ask for help when needed.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and positive interpersonal skills.
- Able to work standing up, climb step stools, and lift 50 lbs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
