Description:
The Civil Designer D3, with supervision from the Manager of Civil Engineering or project engineer, will prepare site development and engineering plans for commercial and industrial sites in conformance to client requirements and local ordinances, and will work with and advise other disciplines on site issues that may impact architectural development and building systems.
Essential Job Functions:
- With assistance, develop design of civil systems including underground utilities, paving, grading and drainage for projects
- With assistance, develop site layout(s) in accordance with zoning and other applicable ordinances and requirements
- Prepare working drawings for construction on CAD with support from department staff where applicable
- Conduct field measuring and/or survey verification at project site. Perform basic topographic surveying for minor projects
- Review product submittals (shop drawings) for conformance with contract documents; specify action necessary for compliance
- With assistance, prepare project file updates, transmittals, letters, reports, and other project correspondence
- Perform necessary calculations and prepare supporting documentation for review by Department Manager or senior engineer
- With Project Manager, attend meetings with governmental agencies as required for obtaining site plan approval
- Coordinate project with other disciplines and advise of site/building system conflicts
- With assistance, prepare site plan submittal documents in accordance with local requirements
- Research design options for consideration by senior engineer
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Employment Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related degree
Experience: 3 years related experience in site design and engineering (Master's degree, research work and internships may count towards this experience)
Skills/Competencies:
- Intermediate level of proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Bluebeam
- Knowledge in Infraworks and BIM 360 a bonus
- Roadway geometric design, state and federal environmental laws, technical specification writing
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Strong attention to detail
