Description:
Reporting to the President & CEO, the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO) serves as an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for the vision, direction and execution of United Way’s philanthropy strategy including achieving ambitious philanthropy goals, growing the skills and capacity of a team of philanthropy professionals and implementing an innovative and effective revenue-generating, champion-producing philanthropy strategy. The CPO manages a personal portfolio of high wealth donors while also supporting the Philanthropy Team to leverage to manage their distinct portfolios, work streams and ultimately, achieve their goals. This position manages 3 direct reports and a full team of 6 staff members.
Major Responsibilities:
Set Vision, Goals, Direction and Strategy for the Philanthropy Team
Support an effective, revenue-generating fundraising strategy leveraging our matrix of corporate, individual, foundation and grant giving
Enhance current vision and strategy for the team. The team is off to a strong start, but this role will help refine and personalize this vision based on domain expertise and personal strengths
Support current team to achieve SMART, inclusive, equitable goals, catalyzing sense of possibility and demonstrable outcomes
Provide strategic clarity, direction, support and accountability for the Philanthropy Team
Partner with the Director, Corporate Philanthropy to achieve ambitious goals and strengthen year-round corporate engagement and relationship management
Partner with the Manager, Individual Philanthropy to strengthen trust-based, customer-service forward strategy and plans
Partner with Manager, Foundations and Grants to execute on a successful foundation and grants vision and plans.
Provide regional philanthropy analysis and fundraising best practice-informed strategy enhancements to our current matrix strategy and plan
Coach and Develop the Philanthropy Team:
Onboard a recently hired Manager, Individual Philanthropy
Coach and develop team, support goal execution, strategy and accountability across the Philanthropy Team
Retain team talent and increase overall team engagement
Cultivate a collaborative and inclusive team culture that works to integrate and eliminate organizational silos and encourage professional growth and development
Set clear goals, objectives, and performance expectations for the team and provide regular feedback and coaching aligned to your leadership brand and our UWGT performance management system and values
