Chief Development Officer

 

Description:

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Upper Palmetto association. The CDO position is housed out of the Y’s corporate office located in Rock Hill, SC. The position is part of the CEO’s key management team and is responsible for all financial development activities for the YMCA. Duties to include direct oversight of the Y’s annual support program, grant writing, capital development and the like - manage the full range of activities in order to support and achieve Y’s philanthropic endeavors. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, journalism, communications, or a related field or equivalent education/experience.
  • Five (5) years of successful experience in grant management or equivalent experience, preferably in a YMCA setting.
  • Successful track record in applying proven practices related to annual fundraising, developing successful grant proposals, working with institutional donors, and the management of all related grant compliance and reporting practices.
  • Knowledge/clear understanding of fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, particularly the ability to read, analyze, write, edit reports according to prescribed style/format and correspond with external businesses and community members.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, peers, volunteers, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, as well as the ability to collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, reason and solve problems.

Essential Functions

  • Manages grant proposal development, compliance monitoring and reporting process.
  • Researches potential funders, (i.e., foundations, corporations, etc.) and develops grant proposals to help fund the Y's programs.
  • Maintains an efficient and effective tracking and reporting system that supports the financial development efforts of the Y.
  • Establishes and manages a comprehensive process for timely and accurate grant evaluation, quality compliance, project and program fulfillment and reporting to funders.
  • Manages and implements an organized system of communications internally and externally to provide stewardship to donors regarding grant awards and the management and monitoring of the funders' requirements for recognition.
  • Provides support for Association-wide special events and projects.
  • Manges the Y’s annual support program (goal is to raise 10% of the Y’s budget annually thru development efforts)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
