Description:


The Sr. Chemist is responsible for intermediate to advanced level testing and analysis of raw material, in-process blend and bulk products to determine identity, purity, strength, composition, and limits of contaminants. This role also includes leading out-of-specification investigations and identifying root cause to provide preventative actions to prevent failures. Sr. Chemist reports to the Quality Control Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

Critical contribution this role is counted on to deliver include:

  • Performing intermediate to advanced level analytical testing on raw material, bulk and finished products.
  • Performing instrument analytical testing techniques such as GC, HPLC, UPLC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS and similar.
  • Troubleshooting advanced instrumentation mentioned above.
  • Leading out-of-specification or other investigations to identify root cause and provide preventative actions to prevent failures.
  • Performing other USP tests that may include techniques such as titration, dissolution, UV, FT-NIR and similar.
  • Training other chemists and peer reviewing data for release of the product.
     

The Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is one who has a solid understanding of analytical instrumentation and techniques. You will know troubleshooting of the analytical instruments such as dissolution, UV, LC, GC and ICP. Enjoys working in teams and makes informed decisions using data trends and holds a good understanding of the industry cGMP requirements.

Critical Success Factor

You'll be most successful in this role if you have:

  • Hands-on proficiency using at-least one or more of the analytical instruments from HPLC/UPLC, GC or ICP.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting advanced instrumentation mentioned above.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Drive continuous improvements of laboratory functions.
  • Coached or trained others on analytical techniques mentioned above.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Good understanding of the industry cGMP requirements.

Capabilities & Skills Required

In order to take on these challenges, you’ll need to have:

  • Bachelors in chemistry, biology, or related science.
  • 3-5 years of industrial laboratory experience.
  • Familiarity with USP or other compendial methods.
  • Working knowledge of Sample manager or similar LIMS program.
  • Proficiency with computer skills such as using MS Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
