Business Planner

 

Description:

This position will be responsible for implementing and executing the established business processes and operations while fostering an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation. As a part of the Paint Department Leadership team, work will be of a collaborative nature to ensure GMS principal execution and compliance across the department, focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). This role will also support development of the portfolio/business plan, tracking execution and results, ensuring action items are completed on time, and facilitating communication with the team.

 

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Promote a safe work environment executing workplace organization (WPO)

  • When necessary, conduct safety talks, job instruction training, ergonomic evaluations, and safety incident report & investigation

  • Provide an environment which stimulates team member’s involvement & personal growth with strong communication, soliciting suggestions, development training plan, attendance records, performance improvement, standardized work, support team meetings, job rotation, and work with UAW to resolve problems

  • Understand and comply with the terms of local and national labor agreements

  • Drive Departmental success through Business Plan Deployment (BPD) targets, include data analytics (Daily Manpower Placement)

  • Lead GM-GMS execution in Paint Shop working closely with the Plant GMS Lead

  • Set expectations of the GMS coach in the department leveraging his/her support within the BPD role

  • Support Paint SME’s at GMS Basketweave while serving as back up when required

  • Ensure all GMS principles are developed, deployed, understood and effective

  • Have managerial courage to lead daily and weekly expectations across all functions within the department

  • Manage operational metrics (Safety, Quality, Throughput & Cost) – drive countermeasures within the team

  • Maintain awareness of quality standards, processes, and leverage resources to solve quality problems

  • Implements problem solving processes

  • Mentor and coach Group Leaders (GLs) in the department

  • Liaise with customers for quality problems and coordinate countermeasures

  • Respond to work environment to meet production schedule

  • Ensure cost control achieves budget needs

  • Cover for the Shift Leader (SL) or Group Leaders (GL) in his/her absence

  • Lead Continuous Improvement (CI) activities to continuously improve safety, throughput, quality, and cost

  • Support departmental initiatives to eliminate unnecessary energy usage and promotes recycling initiatives.

  • Participate and encourage participation from department of plant PMN, WIM, GMAN, GMLN, GM-Plus, Career Ambassador ERG’s groups

  • Follow and ensure compliance to all required Safety Policies and Procedures

  • Participate in SOT & Layered Audit process

  • Lead/participate in BPD process

  • Communicate, educate, and escalate issues that may impact the plant’s performance

  • Create a culture of continuous improvement across business metrics (SPQRCE)

  • Work closely with the UAW on manpower planning

  • Support production/quality/5F/FTQ/TIP meetings

  • S upport Plant planner on sitewide initiatives and implement in the shop

  • Support any special projects assigned by the Paint Area Director

  • Manage the scrap process for the department ensuring adherence to requirements

  • Manage the stagnant report with material and drive issue resolution

  • Manage the coverall process for the Paint Shop

  • Managing the contract with the production aid supplier, and the paint aid value stream

 

Additional Job Description

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • At least 3 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment

  • Advanced understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes

  • Experience supervising employees in a union environment

  • Experience/knowledge of GM Global Manufacturing System (GMS)

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement processes (CIP)

  • Proficient in Throughput Improvement Process (TIP)

  • Kronos experience

  • Experience with Time and Attendance and Manpower Planning

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees and elicit work output

  • Ability to work OT or off-shift as needed
