Identifies, pursues, and secures profitable business opportunities through new applications of base business products / technology and the utilization of adjacent technology and manufacturing assets
- Identifies new opportunities to gain a more favorable position in the market, improve profitability, or increase market share of existing products and technology through new applications
- Identifies new ways to leverage adjacent technology and manufacturing assets in the market
- Collaborates with S&T to share and mutually leverage each other’s understanding of current and potential market and technology opportunities
- Works with Sales, Applications Engineering, Product Line Management, Marketing, Development, and other division stakeholders to uncover potential business opportunities in light of new market and customer insights
- Positions Corning to take advantage of early stage partnerships on new product introductions within existing customers
- Conducts market and technology analysis to inform early stage opportunity assessments and the development of the division’s strategy
- Conducts early stage opportunity assessments to prioritize business development efforts
- Works with Manufacturing and Product or Applications Engineering to determine the manufacturability of potential new products, new applications of existing products, or adjacent technologies and builds a business case to support the launch
- Leads the development of, or assists with developing, the business case, value proposition, and initial pricing strategy for products or programs through early stages of innovation until the full transition to Program Management or Marketing
- Works with the Standards group to set and drive the standards strategy for new opportunity products and technologies
- Identifies and develops channels to market new opportunities
- Defines key success metrics for new business opportunities and tracks progress periodically
- Leads or assists with technology reviews, focusing on market and industry trends, breakthroughs, and advancements
- Develops a network within the industry to aid in the understanding of emerging and unmet requirements and informs management of these industry or market conditions
- Identifies and collaborates with key external technology and development groups to further understand and evaluate potential opportunities in the marketplace and to share Corning’s capabilities
- May develop strategies to grow overall market
- May oversee, develop, and direct a Business Development team
