Role Description

The Business Development Lead will have responsibility for identifying, assessing and executing external transactions to meet the strategic and financial objectives of Zoetis.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Director of Business Development. She/he will work closely with the US &International Commercial Business leadership team and partner with multiple cross-regional functions including Legal, Finance, Manufacturing, Research and Development (VMRD), and Global Commercial Development (GCD).

The role will require approximately 25% travel

Responsibilities:

The Business Development Lead will have responsibility for identifying, assessing and executing external transactions to meet the strategic and financial objectives of Zoetis.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Director of Business Development [and Alliances]. She/he will work closely with the US & International Commercial Business leadership team and partner with multiple cross-regional functions including Legal, Finance, Manufacturing, Research and Development (VMRD), and Global Commercial Development (GCD).

The role will require approximately 25% travel

Primary Responsibilities

The successful candidate will lead a matrix team of colleagues in executing a range of business development transactions including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, licensing deals, distribution agreements, and research collaborations to fill global and regional portfolio gaps.

Preferred Experience

Business Acumen

  • The Business Development Lead will have experience driving business growth and enterprise value creation
  • Ideally s/he will have experience in negotiating collaborations and partnerships to secure access to R&D and/or commercial opportunities.
  • This person will utilize a detailed understanding of financial valuation and critical value drivers to transform the market.

S/he will have knowledge of healthcare industry, previous Animal Health experience is a plus,, including trends and main players [or Possesses or able to quickly develop a strong understanding of the animal health business and Zoetis]

  • S/he will possess the ability to make recommendations that provide fresh, innovative insight into marketplace opportunities.

Executing for Results

  • The ideal candidate will have transaction experience in all stages of deal making from evaluation through due diligence and execution. This individual will be results-oriented, with the capacity to follow through on pragmatic plans and ensure alignment of interests through effective communication with all functions. S/he will have a strong desire to meet and exceed goals, even under adverse circumstances, and is willing to take ownership of issues and make decisions to move forward.
  • The ideal candidate should be able to manage several projects in parallel and understand that his/her working load varies in function on projects’ evolution.

  • The qualified candidate must lead multi-functional teams to drive go/no-go decisions on BD opportunities using fact-based approaches. S/he will work seamlessly and build relationships with the other functions in the organization. The successful candidate will have a strong ability to collaborate with external partners, organizations, agencies, and individuals. Therefore, the successful candidate must have excellent skills with influencing outcomes and shaping and catalyzing dialogue across and outside the organization.

Leadership skills: able to inspire and motivate people to enhance team drive for sustained success and colleague development.

Business Acumen: able to apply objective business criteria and valuation models to the assessment of novel opportunities, and clearly evaluate and communicate the short- and long-term benefits for Zoetis.

Communication and cooperation: engages in effective partnerships, can facilitate effective brainstorming, project work activities; able to manage multi-functional teams and transfer knowledge to the Business Integration team and/or specific team .

A strategic thinker who brings creative ideas, has good judgment to detect innovative opportunities that are aligned with Zoetis’ growth of Zoetis strategy.

Strong analytical skills: capable of developing robust opportunity analyses, followed by concrete action plans to secure implementation.
