Job Summary
The Senior Director of Business Development (Boston Territory) is involved in strategic marketing and operations planning with executives, setting objectives and identifying methods to reach those goals. This position must be keenly aware of organizational growth initiatives related to regional markets and target customer segments.
Essential Duties and Other Responsibilities
- Identifies trendsetter ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements; tracking individual contributors and their accomplishments.
- Locates or proposes potential business deals by contacting potential partners; discovering and exploring opportunities.
- Develops negotiating strategies and positions by studying integration of new venture with company strategies and operations; examining risks and potentials; estimating partners' needs and goals.
- Screens potential business deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, potential, and financials; evaluating options; resolving internal priorities; recommending equity investments.
- Closes new business deals by coordinating requirements; developing and negotiating contracts; integrating contract requirements with business operations.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Enhances organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Once new business has been secured, the business development director works with other department heads and staff to coordinate account startup and transition service.
- Delivering presentations, conducting seminars, and participating in meetings with clients, external vendors or advisors.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- 5 years’ experience in a central lab or CRO business development position, required
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organization and multitasking skills, required
- Ability to generate business, with on average 25-50% travel to the Boston region, required
