The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.

The Astrodynamics Department provides orbit design and analysis to shape the future of the U.S. space enterprise. We help our customers invent new capabilities and develop many of our nation’s most critical space missions. We develop and employ modeling and simulation capabilities for mission threat and resilience analysis, space protection tactics, novel applications in cislunar space, operations planning and more.

Work Model: Hybrid (on-site and telework) in El Segundo, CA; Colorado Springs, CO; Albuquerque, NM; or Chantilly, VA

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Guide the development of capabilities and analyses to support decision-making in the areas of space protection, cislunar/multi-body dynamics, and mission threats/resilience
  • Assemble strong, diverse project teams to innovate new astrodynamics capabilities and novel analyses
  • Build a dedicated national organization through recruiting, hiring, and on-boarding new staff
  • Promote a diverse and inclusive work environment
  • Develop staff through performance management, evaluation, coaching, and mentoring
  • Obtain, manage, and tailor work assignments to staff skills
  • Ensure the technical quality of staff work products and deliverables
  • Acquire resources necessary for the success of the staff
  • Manage overall capabilities of the department, paying attention to health/status and necessary advancements to support customers
  • Monitor, direct, and improve the organization’s processes, functions, compliance, and safety awareness
  • Work closely with the broader subdivision leadership team to cultivate an effective, efficient, and cohesive national organization
  • Collaborate with program office and government customers; corporate support organizations; and other ETG departments
  • Occasional travel to support customer efforts and organization needs

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering or related field of science, engineering, or mathematics
  • 5 years related experience
  • Experience successfully managing and completing projects involving general astrodynamics principles
  • Significant experience identifying, prioritizing, and resolving technical and/or personnel issues
  • Experience with staff development and mentoring
  • Ability to flex communication styles for productive interactions with staff, collaborators, and customers
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SCI security clearance and polygraph, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
