At Sun Life, we believe communication plays an integral role in keeping employees informed and engaged. We are seeking a creative, passionate and experienced internal/employee communication professional to join the U.S. Communications team. As an Associate Director, Communications, you will be a key partner to executive leaders of our U.S. businesses. You’ll develop and execute communication strategies and plans specific to each business, as well as support special enterprise-wide projects. It’s exciting, fast-paced and even fun! The Associate Director, Communications reports to the Director of Internal Communications for Sun Life U.S.

 

How you will contribute:

  • Be an active, engaged member of business senior leadership teams. Propose ideas and opportunities. Provide communications counsel for business leaders and manage internal communications activities and vehicles.

  • Support business leaders in communicating/reinforcing priorities, engaging employees, and connecting through a variety of channels.

  • Fuel employee engagement by delivering creative, visual communications tied to business strategy and priorities.

  • Develop proactive communication approaches for successful management of change and employee readiness for both companywide and business-specific programs and initiatives.

  • Ensure integration and consistency of messages with other communications and marketing efforts.

  • Develop communications plans and create related deliverables such as presentations, talking points, key messages, organization announcements, Workplace posts, etc.

  • Measure the effectiveness of internal communications using feedback and data analysis.

  • Support Communications team on enterprise-wide communications initiatives and special projects, and drive enterprise initiatives within the businesses.

 

What you will bring with you:

  • 8+ years of experience in an internal/employee communications or related role, with expertise driving employee engagement and organizational change.

  • Experience advising and partnering with senior leaders and their teams.

  • Excellent judgment. High level of integrity and sensitivity to confidential information.

  • Ability to work in fast-paced, high-growth environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail.

  • Proficient at developing and executing detailed communication plans.

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of how storytelling and visual communications enhance the employee experience.

  • Skilled at conveying complex information in a clear, engaging way.

  • Proven ability to coordinate and run large-scale meetings (town halls) for hybrid work environments.

  • Respected team player with a strong focus on trying new approaches and technologies, and delivering results.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Knowledge of health insurance industry a plus, however, not required if candidate has solid foundation and expertise in internal communications’ processes, tactics, methods, etc.

  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building and collaboration skills.

  • Superior writing and editing skills, with knowledge of AP Style.

  • Experience working with a variety of communications and technology platforms, including internal social tools. Video skills a plus.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams. Experience hosting meetings in Zoom and other platforms.

  • Experience with Workplace by Meta or similar platform helpful.
