GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

The Assistant Maintainer (Education) is primarily responsible for providing support in the setup and maintenance of the Education Department’s multi-purpose rooms in the Uris Center, administrative offices, conference rooms, and storage facilities. In addition, the Assistant Maintainer must be proactive in monitoring and maintaining the setups for all Uris Center for Education and Museum-wide Education programs to ensure an exemplary visitor experience. The ideal candidate must know how to prioritize tasks, have strong communication skills, and provide consistent, high-quality client service.

Note: This role will have Variable Schedule.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • At the direction of the Assistant Manager, Venue Operations and Audience Service, set and reset Uris Center furniture in pre-approved configurations.

  • Assist the management team and Education program staff in planning Education festivals and large- scale events.

  • At the direction of the Assistant Manager, Venue Operations and Audience Services, pick up and retrieve Education materials and packages between Education offices, the Uris Center, Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium, Visitor Experience storage areas, Receiving, Print Services, Design, and other locations.

  • Monitor and maintain Education venues and shared spaces including the Uris Center, Education conference rooms, office pantries, and storage facilities.

  • Ensure locations and furniture are clean, fully functional (lights, etc.), organized and well stocked. This includes wiping down surfaces before each event and making sure that all spaces are free of debris.

  • In order to support Departmental goals, liaise with other Museum trade shops and departments to facilitate departmental requests, including, but not limited to: phone activations, elevator outages, catering pick-ups, and custodial requests.

  • Create internal signage, updated Education Department phone lists, and staff nameplates.

  • Effectively communicate with clients to ensure a high standard of customer service and event support, greeting clients upon arrival to venue, fielding incoming set-up adjustments from clients and responding to client requests.

  • Deliver event-specific materials to various locations throughout the Museum and to external clients.

  • In collaboration with management, order and maintain supplies for the Uris Center and Education shared spaces, and ensure an accurate inventory of Education supplies including, but not limited to stools, easels, water coolers, Uris room supplies, furniture, and pantry supplies.

  • Use Museum room booking system (Artifax) to track inventory and resource usage, gain knowledge of daily events and room set-ups.

  • Monitor and maintain up-to-date Education publications inventory at the onsite storage locations, replenish Education display cases, and restock Education and Visitor Experience shelves for Museum- wide distribution of Education printed material. Fulfill requests from Education and Visitor Experience departments, with input from management to request stock from off-site storage facilities.

  • Assist with the deinstallation of Uris Center exhibitions.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Able to prioritize tasks, work efficiently with others, and take direction.

  • Must be punctual and detail oriented.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Manual dexterity and physical strength are required.

  • Able to lift and move a minimum of 50 lbs, including boxes, chairs, tables, and other furnishings.

  • Experience with use of Artifax room booking system is preferred.

  • Warehouse experience helpful.

  • Previous customer service experience helpful.

  • This is a DC37 union position. The person hired must join the union, or already be in the union.

  • This position holds a variable schedule that can be changed according to operational needs with two weeks’ notice.

  • The schedule will be Monday, Thursday, Friday, 10am-6pm and Saturday and Sunday, 8am-4pm. Subject to change.
