Description:

Work collaboratively to manage and develop large publications, design concepts, and maintain UTA’s visual brand identity. They oversee the design and production aspects of diverse projects, encompassing both print and electronic formats. This includes print publications, digital/web materials, social media content, outdoor advertising, and more. Their roles are vital in supporting the University’s strategic and integrated marketing and branding initiatives within a fast-paced publishing environment that operates under strict deadlines. Together, they ensure the successful execution of projects that align with the University’s marketing goals and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Assistant Art Director works closely with the Sr Director of Creative Services. He assumes a wide range of responsibilities to support key marketing and communication strategies, ensuring the creation of integrated design systems across various media platforms.

The responsibilities include:

  • Concept and Graphic Design: Responsible for creating visually appealing and impactful designs for various platforms and mediums, including print and digital formats. Develops engaging designs for web pages, social media platforms, email communications, marketing materials, banners, brochures, advertisements, and more. Working closely with copywriter/editors, the designs should effectively convey messages and capture the intended audience’s attention.
  • Manage publication production: overseeing the production of magazines, working closely with writers and staff designers to ensure a seamless and high-quality output on deadline. This responsibility involves managing the entire magazine production process, from initial concept designs to the final publication. Ensures consistent layout and theme, including brainstorming ideas, determining the appropriate visual and graphic elements, and creating a comprehensive plan for the magazine’s design.
  • Assignment Management: Adhering to project deadlines, procedures, and budgets. Maintaining documentation, reporting progress, and project status through the project management system, as well as to customers and managers at regular intervals.
  • Art Direction and Design Development: Supporting the Creative Director in creating and conceptualizing original marketing direction, messaging, and visual aesthetics for marketing materials and developing high-level presentations for design and client reviews.
  • File Management and Archives: Managing project files and resources to be stored according to departmental standards, allowing files to be backed up and quickly accessed by others on the team.
  • Art Direction of Photography and Illustration: Working closely with University photographers to provide direction for photo shoots and seeking illustrators for assignments as required to ensure quality control throughout the production process.
  • Design Coordination and Integration: Collaborating with the department’s editorial/copy-writing team, web/online communications, multi-media,and social media teams to coordinate and integrate related publications, branded campaigns, and departmental resources into cohesive marketing communications.
  • Collaboration: Working with a diverse team of communications and design professionals across campus and engaging directly with senior administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure design concepts and materials’ accuracy, relevance, and appropriateness, seeking approvals, and maintaining documentation as necessary.
  • Keeping Up with Design Trends and Technology: Staying informed about evolving design trends, emerging technology, and developments in electronic publishing. Collaborating with the Creative Director to implement appropriate hardware and software solutions and assisting
    other staff members in staying current with technology and design techniques.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
