Description:
Park Tudor is currently seeking an experienced, innovative, student centered and highly collaborative Upper School Art Teacher in Ceramics and Digital Design/Multimedia Arts. The position is responsible for teaching introductory to advanced courses in ceramics to students in grades 9-12 and teaching a beginning and advanced level multimedia course (Digital Design and/or Video Content Creation).
Essential Functions:
- Develop curriculum, complete lesson plans, instruct and supervise introductory through advanced courses in ceramics and multimedia (graphic design and/or video) at the high school level.
- Supervise studio processes and procedures, including wheel throwing, hand-building projects, kiln firing, clay mixing, glaze making, studio clean up, while ensuring compliance with policies and safety procedures, efficiency and professional courtesy within a communal studio.
- Responsible for proper care, maintenance, and repair of electric, raku and gas-fired kilns and other equipment—including kiln shelf maintenance, potter’s wheels, clay pugmill etc.
- Attend to proper maintenance of classroom area and storage of ceramic supplies, glazes, and student work to ensure a professional, healthy and safe environment.
- Responsible for maintaining a kiln-firing schedule and offering open-lab studio times for students to work on projects.
- Maintain operational and capital inventory, with assistance of Director of Fine Arts, within budget to see that all required expendable materials are adequately stocked.
- Maintain program records to include expenses, materials, equipment maintenance, class rosters, attendance and grading.
- Maintain ceramic library and research resources for students.
- Maintain student displays and promotion of completed student work.
- Responsible for advising students, working on portfolio development, and assisting students in photographing works for portfolios.
- Advise and support students on exhibiting work in student exhibitions, both on and off campus, as well as submitting work to contests such as Scholastics Art & Writing, ICC Art Competition.
- Participate in department activities, collaborate with colleagues within and outside of the department.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required in ceramics or closely related field.
Experience: Previous teaching experience required in ceramics and art studio; previous graphic design teaching and/or experience in graphic design or video production. Computer coding a plus.
Required Qualifications:

- Knowledge in proper loading, unloading, and operations of electric, raku and gas-fired kilns
- Strong comprehension of Digital Design and/or Video Content Creation for semester-long beginning and advanced course
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Adobe
