Art Gallery Staff Associate

 

Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create and develop graphic design projects such as postcards, posters, and handouts that promote and publicize gallery activities and events.
Website development and maintenance.
Create and design products that extend the gallery's reach to online audiences.
Prep digital media for inclusion in exhibitions.
Visitor services which include gallery sitting, greeting the public, and monitoring gallery exhibitions.
The person will work directly with various artists on certain installation projects.
Must be able to participate as required with events such as opening receptions, assistance with taking down exhibitions, repair and repainting of gallery walls, and delivery and installation of works.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts or equivalent work experience with an emphasis in Graphic Design and Studio Art*.
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional design experience*.
    • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience shall be considered.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer graphic design software applications, including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Demonstrated experience in utilizing programs such as Final Cut Pro and other software such as Garage Band and/or Audacity.
  • Portfolio should reflect both finished pieces and process work with an emphasis on digital and multi-media design.
  • Demonstrated experience in website maintenance.
  • Self-motivated individual who is willing to take on new projects, and understands social media engagement to extend the reach of the gallery to online audiences.
  • Good interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, ability to work with the public and other artists.
  • Familiarity with using hand tools and small power tools.
  • Must be able to work on a ladder and be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work with outside printing vendors/research, work within budgets.
  • The ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
