Description:
The Department of History of Art and Architecture and American and New England Studies Program at Boston University are seeking to hire a new Director of Preservation Studies at the rank of tenured Full Professor. The Director oversees the MA program in Preservation Studies, a leading program in the field of historic preservation since its founding in the 1970s.
We seek an ambitious leader in the field who will enhance the stature of the Preservation Studies Program and contribute to Boston University’s commitments to the diversity of its faculty, staff, and students. Candidates with expertise in sites and communities traditionally underrepresented in the heritage field are especially encouraged to apply. Program responsibilities will include duties such as management, communication, strategic program and curriculum planning, course staffing, budgeting, student advising, and advancing an active preservation research agenda. The new Director will also maintain the program’s ties to heritage institutions in the Boston area and New England region, as well as the wider heritage and preservation field.
Required Skills
Applicants must have previous academic administrative and management experience and the ability to teach courses in historic preservation, architectural history, and related fields such as American Studies, Architectural Studies, Museum Studies, Archaeology, History, and Urban Studies.
