Description:
Responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meet the client’s needs. Provides professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large, complex projects. Independently applies advanced architectural concepts and designs. Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. May provide technical guidance to less experienced architects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Communication and Collaboration
- Consistently demonstrates working knowledge of conceptual, schematic, design development construction documentation and construction administration phases on assigned projects.
- Maintains and initiates frequent communication with JCJ team members to sustain proper
information flow.
- Fully participates in designated project meetings, both virtual and in-person. Demonstrates
the ability to lead certain meetings with the consultant and internal team.
- Demonstrates proficiency at written communication in email and virtual communication via
JCJ virtual meeting software.
- Prepares meeting notes using standard JCJ formats.
- Maintains an on-going vigilance about self-checking work and conveying questions or
concerns to Project team leadership. May perform checking of junior staff level work, whenrequested.
- Participates in the formulation of work and scheduling strategies with JCJ team and adheres
to establish project schedules.
- Adheres to JCJ established conventions for digital file keeping and assists in promoting this
practice with the project team.
- Coordinates work with internal JCJ project team and sub-consultants.
- Participates in the preparation and delivery of presentations to clients both physically and
virtually. Assumes leadership of selected portions of presentations.
- Further refines a portfolio in one market sector.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the time management skills required to work on multiple projects of all sizes.Design, Visualization and Space Planning
- Consistently demonstrates creativity in design and the ability to adapt design solutions to a variety of building types.
- Consistently understands and embraces the architectural design approach as established by the Project Leadership and demonstrates the ability to integrate interior design with architecture to create a unified statement.
- Consistently implements design direction that is cognizant of construction methods and coordination with engineering disciplines.
- Consistently demonstrates a working knowledge of the conventions of space planning; including proper/legal clearances, awareness of human scale and ergonomics, functional organization and the three-dimensional implications of planning.
- Assists with development of design solutions. Selects and presents multiple schemes to the internal and client team. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the application of function, price points, lead times, and durability of products and systems being recommended for use within projects.
- Demonstrates facile computer aided visualization skills via multiple software applications to support the development and presentation of design concepts. Share knowledge of these applications with team members.
- Researches manufacturers and selects appropriate construction materials, systems, and assemblies from the viewpoint of function, client preference, aesthetics, and cost; coordinates with team members, and incorporates accurate information into drawings. On certain projects, delegates the task of selection to junior staff.
- Supports business development activities by creating presentation collateral, including digital or physical finish boards, and visual slide-deck presentations. This may require coordination with JCJ’s business development and marketing teams.
Qualifications:
- Must have 6 years or more experience in architectural practice or related position.
- Must have 4 years or more experience in creating design solutions.
- Must be NCARB certified.
- Licensed Architect in the state of California.
- Must have an advanced computer and information management skills
- Must have experience with Revit, AutoCAD current versions.
- 3D Rendering capability
- MS Office Suite – Excel, Word, MS Project
- Must be willing to travel to JCJ Architect's sites.
- Authorized to work in the US.
