Description:
Rice University’s Animal Resources Facility is essential in supporting research developments by ensuring proper animal care and facility cleanliness. The Animal Care Attendant (ACA) is responsible for maintaining clean environments, processing animal cages, and handling janitorial services to support research and teaching efforts at the university.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process clean and dirty caging equipment to support animal research.
- Perform preventive maintenance on cage wash equipment.
- Maintain supply inventories and restock Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) stations.
- Perform general cleaning of all areas, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and sanitation of research spaces.
- Clean break areas and bathrooms, ensuring sanitation of fixtures, floors, and surfaces.
- Remove trash, waste materials, and soiled linens from work areas.
- Operate floor maintenance machines such as buffers.
- Conduct laundry services and maintain stainless steel equipment.
- Handle disposal of carcasses from freezers/refrigerators.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the facility’s operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience (or equivalent additional education).
- Ability to work on-site in an essential role that requires in-person duties.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Ability to push/pull heavy equipment and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Knowledge of cleaning protocols, sanitation, and disinfection processes.
- Ability to operate hand tools, maintain equipment, and mix chemical solutions accurately.
- Basic mechanical understanding and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must be able to wear protective clothing as needed.
