Description:

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts seeks a detail-oriented and adaptable Adult Programs Coordinator to join our dynamic Education team. As a key member of our team, you will develop, implement, and oversee a diverse and robust program schedule that engages adult audiences (college through older adults) with our permanent collections and special exhibitions. Your experience in logistics, contract administration, and event coordination, a passion for lifelong learning and a strong understanding of the visual arts, will be essential in creating enriching and inspiring experiences for our visitors.

Core Job Responsibilities:

Program Development and Implementation: Assists with development and implementation of an innovative roster of adult programs aligned with VMFA's mission, strategic plan, and goals, as well as the Education Department's objectives related to the VMFA permanent collections and special exhibitions. This includes art history classes, public lectures such as the Annual Paul Mellon Lecture, Artist Talks with leading national and local artists such as Sally Mann, gallery programs including the annual African American Read-In and other supplemental programming in both virtual and in-person modalities such as multi-day symposia like “Picturing the Black Imaginary.”

Program Management: Effectively coordinate and communicate scheduling, logistics, budgets, billing and speaker agreements/contracts/travel and lodging for all adult programs.

Audience Engagement: Cultivate and nurture diverse adult audiences both on campus and across Virginia, ensuring a competitive, innovative, and high-caliber slate of programming.

Collaboration: Work collaboratively with and across Curatorial, Audience Development, Special Events and other departments in the museum to meet programmatic goals. Work with the Marketing and PR department to advertise Adult Programs to both traditional and new constituencies, and brainstorm Education/Marketing practices.

Teamwork: Effectively communicate and work collaboratively to provide support for the Art and Education Division.

Minimum Qualifications

Proven experience in program and event planning, development, and implementation.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Experience in event logistics, administration and hospitality.

Budgetary experience and proficiency in computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases, email).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with diverse audiences.

Demonstrated passion for adult education, life-long learning and a deep appreciation for the visual arts.

Ability to review and administer contracts as needed.
