Actuarial Analyst

 

Description:

The Actuarial Analyst on the Medicaid team uses technical skills and health insurance knowledge to help support business needs. This is achieved through the analysis and summarization of data to support recommendations and present results related to Medicaid products. This role requires collaboration within the actuarial team and other internal stakeholders to make financial projections, analyze actuarial soundness of capitation rates, collect financial data and assist with financial reporting, and support the development of the dual-eligible Medicare bid.

A Day In The Life
 

  • Performs analyses related to capitation rate development, including development of negotiations materials.
  • Performs ad hoc analyses as needed related to hot topics in the healthcare industry to understand impact to Medicaid lines of business.
  • Participates in external meetings with the state Medicaid agency and consultants.
  • Supports development of forecasting materials for Medicaid lines of business.
  • Assists in preparation of quarterly financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with Medicaid and actuarial teams to support development and improvement of models and processes.
  • Presents results of analyses to internal stakeholders.
  • Documentation of methods, procedures, and results.
  • May represent the department/division on corporate projects.
  • Make satisfactory exam progress according to the Actuarial Student Program guidelines.
  • Other specific accountabilities as assigned by management.
     

Nice To Have
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, statistics, or related area of study.
  • Previous experience with Medicaid products, including forecasting, financial statements, and capitation rate development or analysis.
  • Previous experience with Medicare products, including CMS bid development, forecasting, and knowledge of dual eligible products.
  • Healthcare industry knowledge.
  • Excel proficiency.
  • Knowledge of SAS or SQL software.
     

Required Skills And Experiences
 

  • At least one actuarial exam passed.
  • Basic problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong PC skills.
  • Works independently.
