Accountant

 

Description:

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares journal entries of appropriate transactions.
  • Reconciles and analyzes accounts and resolves discrepancies.
  • Prepares and completes check processing cycle, including but not limited to reconciliation, resolving discrepancies, updating lag report and medical reserve schedule.
  • Reviews accounts payable vouchers for completeness and accuracy, including but not limited to coding, backup support and approvals.
  • Responds to and resolve issues and queries regarding checks and bank exception reports.
  • Prepares assigned internal and external financial reports.
  • Prepares and files regulatory filings and requirements, acts as resource to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assists in preparing for and responding to internal and external audits.
  • Monitors and maintains fixed assets subsidiary ledger, including but not limited to coding invoices, tracking status, preparing expenses, and reconciliation.
  • Assists with fixed asset inventory and asset tagging/tracking.
  • Creates and maintains documents, including but not limited to desktop procedures

 

Previous Experience Required

  • In-depth knowledge of accounting and auditing theory, principles and practices, and ability to apply to a wide variety of accounting transactions.
  • Interpersonal skills - interacts effectively with individuals both inside and outside of the organization; relates openly and comfortably with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to explain complex information and present financial information in meaningful formats.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong knowledge of basic data analysis and communication/reporting tools and techniques, with ability to perform analysis and resolve problems, and recognize and act on trends.
  • Strong skills in data identification, integration, validation, manipulation, interpretation, and reporting.
  • Basic skills in automated accounting systems.
  • Strong mathematics skills, including the ability to calculate ratios and perform simple algebra.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, including ability to create complex formulas, pivot tables, macros and VLookup.

 

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; and/or a minimum of five years performing account reconciliations and preparing financial state
