Academic Program Coordinator

 

Description:

The Academic Program Coordinator provides administrative support and financial and event planning assistance for the Department of American Studies, Ethnic Studies, and the Science Technology and Society program. The incumbent serves as the primary department coordinator for daily office operations, in addition to providing administrative support with event planning of lectures, colloquia, receptions and other departmental activities; maintaining the department’s website, email, and social media accounts; providing support for courses and the undergraduate concentration; and additional administrative duties as assigned, based on department need. This position also serves the role of financial coordinator, initiating department financial business processes in Workday. Overall, the position provides effective support to a wide range of individuals, such as administrative or other academic departments, students with questions, faculty with demanding priorities, and prospective students and parents seeking information about the department. The ideal candidate will be customer service-oriented, resourceful, proactive, self-motivated and have a strong aptitude for learning and becoming proficient in multiple computer applications.

Education and Experience:

  • Associates degree plus at least 3 years of administrative experience, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.

  • Experience with event planning and scheduling

  • Works independently and uses judgment and discretion

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload

  • Proficient in Microsoft and Google platforms

  • Strong technical aptitude for the independent management of departmental websites and social media accounts, as well as the proficient use of multiple software applications used at Brown (Course Leaf, Banner, COGNOS, BCM, Workday, 25Live, ASK, and others), a plus.

  • Flexible, self-motivated, and proactive

  • Ability to handle confidential materials.

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
